Its weaning time here at Yew Tree. Our little cria have now become teenagers and said goodbye to their mums.
Weaning normally takes places around 6 months of age- in Feb or early March at Yew Tree-it always seems to be when the weather is at its windiest and very wet!
It’s a stressful time for the youngsters so its important to keep them together as a group to make leaving mum as easy as possible. The first few days are a challenge for them, they look for their mums around the field and sound like a flock of sheep. However its not long before they settle down and enjoy being together as a tight knit group. The mums are moved a few miles away out of sight which makes the break less traumatic.
