For novice alpaca breeders or those new to alpaca breeding
 

This British Alpaca Society (BAS) affiliated course is aimed at novice alpaca breeders or those new to breeding. It is ideal for those approaching their first breeding season with births due in Summer 2024 (i.e. mating 2023) or those thinking of buying female alpacas to start a breeding herd. 

 

As BAS Affiliated Trainers Yew Tree Alpacas are affiliated to run BAS approved courses which use a set of modules approved by the BAS. This course is a BAS affiliate course and will use modules approved by them.

 

 

The BAS modules 4, 7 & 8  will be covered;

 

   4 The Alpaca, what to look for

    7 Breeding & Mating

    8 Birthing

  


The course will be a mix of theory and practical sessions and will be split into two main sections; In the morning, what to look for in an alpaca (conformation and fleece) and options for breeding & mating.

 

In the afternoon, birthing alpacas, covering preparation before the day, the birthing period and post natal care. We will also cover common birthing problems, when its time to get your vet and advice when problems after birth with dam and/or young cria. Yew Tree Alpacas has bred over 50 alpacas since 2009 and has a detailed knowledge and experience of birthing and the issues which can arise before and after birth.

 

Location: Yew Tree Alpacas base at  Anstey near Buntingford, SG90DA

 

 

Lunch will be provided, also coffee/tea & biscuits during the day

Hard copy handouts and a certificate of completion are also included in the cost.

 

There are a maximum of 9 places and we require a minimum of 5 bookings. If there are less than 5 bookings the course will either be cancelled (you will be fully refunded) or an alternative date given.
