Please note we are not an open farm and alpaca walks are only available on set dates.
Yew Tree Alpacas offer a fabulous Alpaca walking experience in the East Hertfordshire countryside, a fantastic present or a treat for yourself. An unforgettable experience for that animal/alpaca mad friend or relative.
In 2024 you have a choice of three types of walking experience
1 - The Alpaca Mini Walk 15-20 mins. Event duration 2 hrs
2 - The Alpaca Walk Experience Walk 30 mins. Event duration approx. 2.5 hrs
3 - The Extended Countryside Walk Walk 1 hour. Event duration approx 3.5 hrs
Please note: if you need assistance to walk at all you should book our Alpaca Adventure or Cria Capers- none of the walks are suitable if you cannot walk unaided with both hands on a lead rope. Please go to our alpaca adventure which is likely to suit you better.
Our walks offer so much more than just an alpaca walk.....
- Initial short talk on alpacas and back ground to our herd
- Short trip on luxury mini bus to walk location (excl alpaca mini)
- Guidance and training on walking with an alpaca
- An alpaca walk with one of our boys
- Feeding carrots and photo opportunities at the end of the walk
- Mingling with the rest of the boys herd
- Back to Yew Tree base to enjoy either lunch or Cream Tea & home made cakes (depending on the date you choose)
- Alpacas grazing nearby (depends on month)
- Opportunity to browse & buy at our Yew Tree alpaca shop

The Alpaca Mini includes a 15 minute walk around our fields at Yew Tree, this is for the slower walker and is more an amble than a conventional alpaca walk. If the group needs to stop this will be possible. If you are little nervous, have no experience with animals or worried about the speed you walk you should book this option. Children 10-15 years can book 1-1 alpaca on this option only.
The Alpaca Walk Experience includes a 30 minute walk around picturesque fields and parkland at the alpacas home location. This is the easier of the two main walks but does require you to be able to walk confidently without assistance.
The Extended Countryside Walk includes a one hour walk with your alpaca in the open countryside with wonderful views across open countryside. This is more demanding than the walk experience and includes an uphill walk. You need to be confident you can walk at a regular walking pace and hold the lead rope if your alpaca pulls suddenly.

Food and Refreshment
An important part of Yew Tree's walks are the home made lunch and teas afterwards. All the sandwiches are made at Yew Tree on the day and the cakes and scones for the cream tea are home made at Yew Tree. You can check out the details of each below. Each walk date will have either a lunch or cream tea and cakes afterwards. This is included in the dates diary below.
The cream tea walks do not include sandwiches but there is an option to book sandwiches as an addition to the cream tea and cakes. Note, this additional pre booked option and cannot be booked on the day of the walk. See below.
Our programme has 10 walk events per month, April – September - There is just one Alpaca Mini per month and the other 9 dates are a mix of the Walk Experience and Countryside walks. For each event date we give the type of walk and whether it has lunch or cream tea
The Walk Experience and Countryside walks include a short 8-10 mins ride on a luxury mini coach to and from the walk location. It will not be possible to travel to the location separately.

Age Limits
Note: the age limit for walking our alpacas is 10 years.
Children aged 10-15 years must walk with an adult on the Walk Experience and the Extended Countryside Walk (i.e. they must choose the sharing option). They can walk one to one on the Alpaca Mini.

How to Order
STEP 1
CHOOSE WALK TYPE
Choose the type of walk - either the alpaca walk experience or extended countryside walk or alpaca mini.
Please ensure you select the walk that is suitable for ALL the people in your group.
STEP 2
SELECT DATE
Select the date – click on the month you prefer to reveal all the dates for that month. You can then see all the dates for your preferred walk and the different food options with each. Click on the preferred date and you will be taken to the relevant booking page.
STEP 3
SELECT QUANTITY
When on the booking page for your selected date you decide whether you would like to share an alpaca or walk one alpaca one person – note: If there are 10-15 year olds in your group for the Walk Experience & Countryside walks they must share with an adult i.e. you must select the sharing option when you book. They can walk one to one on the Alpaca Mini.

Alpaca Events for Non-walkers/Children under 10 yrs
If you are looking for an Alpaca event suitable for those who would prefer just to meet and feed the alpacas (and not walk) or children 6-9 yrs please visit our Alpaca Adventures or Cria Capers pages.
Upgrade to Afternoon Tea on the cream tea & cake walks
You have the chance to upgrade the Countryside or Walk Experience walks which have Cream Tea and Homemade cakes with them. You can add freshly made sandwiches to these walks. Each serving includes one round of sandwiches (4 sandwiches) with salad garnish and a bag of crisps. Crisps can be any brand.
The sandwiches will be on brown/granary bread and will be one of the following four fillings (you can request which filling of those below via email beforehand)
- Cheddar Cheese & Chutney
- Brie, redcurrant & rocket
- Tuna mayo & spring onion
- Ham salad
The cost is £4.50 per person
Orders for two or more people within one booking will have different fillings for each round of sandwiches.
Please note it is not possible to have sandwiches instead of the cream tea/cakes included in the cost of the walk. The above offer is in addition.

The above with alpaca key ring, & alpaca facts info added plus details of your chosen walk. Please note this will arrive flat packed and does include postage for a box made up.

Gift Vouchers for Alpaca Walking
We no longer do gift vouchers specifically for Alpaca Walks. Instead we have a range of general gift vouchers which can be bought in values of £5, £10, £15, £25, £50, £75 & £100, which can be used against our activities, including walks, or in our online shop.
Simply work out the value of walk you wish to buy for and order the appropriate value in our gift vouchers. You can either receive your voucher online or opt for a gift box which includes a hard copy voucher. In the gift box you will receive the A6 card voucher in an envelope (similar to that pictured below), an alpaca walking greeting card in cello for you to complete, plus a colour A5 leaflet on Alpaca walking and colour A5 leaflet on Yew Tree Alpacas.
Animal Activities Licence
Yew Tree Alpacas have been licenced by the East Hertfordshire District Council to operate an alpaca walking business based at Anstey in East Hertfordshire. We hold animal activities licence 19/0915/AA which is valid for 3 years.
Our first licence was issued from March 2019 – March 2022. We were reassessed in June 2022 and the renewed licence is valid until March 2025.
