Show Success

We are thrilled to tell you that our alpaca show team exceeded all expectations at the Heart of England show last weekend 10th/11th April. Amazingly our super successes included a champion and reseve champion for Sydney and Enya.

We took seven of our alpacas to the show held at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre near Leighton Buzzard, a mix of intermediates and juniors. Of these, five came away with an award, and the icing on the cake was the medium breeder award (herds with 10-30 breeding females) which Yew Tree Alpacas won for gaining the most points in the medium breeder category.

The star of the show was Sydney - we knew she was good having come 2nd at the Futurity show last month. She stood out in her class and was awarded not only 1st prize but also the champion brown female award aswell.

There were also winnings for Enya our grey. Enya came 1st in her class and reserve champion when judged against all other grey females. We couldnt believe it. Not only this, Boris came 2nd in his class and Columbia 3rd, and finally Archie got 5th. So it was celebrations all round and especially well done and big thanks to Limestone Alpacas who were the breeders of three of these five alpacas. As you'll know from earlier blogs we purchased Columbia, Sydney and Enya in Autumn last year from Limestone,  you can imagine we are pretty pleased with our choices. Poor Dexter didnt get a place in his class, but he enjoyed his weekend away and played Mr Cute all weekend. He was certainly the favourite of all the visitors to our pen.

All the three female alpacas Sydney, Enya and Columbia have never had cria. This year Sydney and Enya will be mated and hopefully their offspring will do them proud when they are born next year.  We need to find quality husbands for them for sure!
