Congratulations to our alpaca Sydney who has surprised us by coming 2nd at the Alpaca Futurity in Coventry. She did amazingly well to come 2nd in a class of 10 other alpacas against some of the best herds in the country. What's more she remembered her lead training and walked smoothly around the ring! (See previous blog) The Alpaca futurity is an alpaca show with a difference.
Herd sires are nominated prior to the show and their progeny are given points when they are placed in their class. The champion sire is then decided from the overall placings of his progeny during the show, hence the name futurity.
Sydney was one of the alpacas we purchased from Limestone Alpacas in Warwickshire last Autumn. She is dark fawn in colour and has a lovely dense but fine fleece. Sydney was bred by Limestone Alpacas and thanks to Paul from Limestone Sydney was able to go to the show. We have two more shows this season so we are keen to see how she gets on and compare her results with our other Yew Tree girls and boys who are on the show team this year.
Heres a few photos of Sydney proudly showing off her second rosette and in the field at home.
