Please note we are not an open farm and alpaca walks are only available on set dates.

 

We offer a fabulous Alpaca walking experience in the East Hertfordshire countryside, a fantastic present or a treat for yourself. A really different experience for that animal/alpaca mad friend or relative. 

Please note our 2022 walks have now finished-our season end was Sept 21st.

We offer two types of walking experience.

 

1 - The Alpaca Walk Experience – total event duration 2- 2.5 hrs

2 - The Extended Countryside Walk – total event duration apprx 3-3.5 hrs

Both the above options involve walking with your alpaca –The walk experience involves a short talk on alpacas whilst meeting and feeding our alpaca girls followed by a walk with our boys around fields and parkland for approx. 25 minutes, feeding carrots and photo opps afterwards. The extended countryside walk is in the open countryside, walking with your alpaca for approx. one hour  (feeding carrots and photo opps as per the walk experience). This is more demanding and you need to consider carefully which type of walk is most appropriate for your group. 

 

Your wonderful alpaca experience is completed by either lunch or cream tea and home made cakes.

Our programme has 12 walk events per month, April – September - six dates in each month are the Alpaca Walk Experience and six the Extended Countryside walk. For each event date we give the type of walk and whether it has lunch or cream tea afterwards. Both types of events have dates with lunch and cream tea, you look through the list of dates within each month for your preferred walk type and food option.


We will be holding the walks at the home of our alpaca boys (2.5 miles away) rather than bringing the boys to Yew Tree. Therefore each visit will involve a short 8-10 minute ride on a minibus to and from the walk location. It will not be possible to travel to the location separately.

Age Limits

 

Note: the age limit for walking our alpacas is 10 years.

 

Children aged 10-15 years must walk with an adult (i.e. they must choose the sharing option).

How to Order

CHOOSE WALK TYPE

 

Choose the type of walk - either the alpaca walk experience or extended countryside walk.

 

Please ensure you select the walk that is suitable for ALL the people in your group.

SELECT FOOD

 

Choose whether you would like lunch afterwards or Cream tea and home made cakes. Click here to see the lunch menu and here for the cream tea menu.

SELECT DATE

 

Select the date – click on the month you prefer to reveal all the dates for that month. You can then see all the dates where your walk and preferred food option are offered.  Once a date is found click on it and you will be taken to the relevant booking page.

SELECT QUANTITY

 

When on the booking page for your selected date  you decide whether you would like to share an alpaca or walk one alpaca one person – note: If you have a 10-15 year old in your group they share with an adult i.e. you must select the sharing option when you book.

We have a range of gift vouchers specifically for Alpaca walking tailored to match the price of the various options.

 

You can either receive your voucher online or opt for a gift box which includes a hard copy voucher. Animal Activities Licence

 

Yew Tree Alpacas have been licenced by the East Hertfordshire District Council to operate an alpaca walking business based at Anstey in East Hertfordshire. We hold animal activities licence 19/0915/AA which is valid for 3 years.

Our first licence was issued from March 2019 – March 2022. We were reassessed in June 2022 and the renewed licence is valid until March 2025.

Terms & Conditions

 

Please note the following terms & conditions regarding Yew Tree Alpacas, Alpaca Walking

 

  • We can take a maximum of 10 alpacas on the walk and a minimum of 6. If the bookings fall below 6 then we will offer an alternative date or your money back.
  • When walking on both events we have two Yew Tree personnel on foot at the front and back of the alpacas for extra safety and security.
  • Children are welcome 10 -15 years. They can share an alpaca with an adult but the accompanying adult must be 16 years or above. Note you cannot book 1 person, 1 alpaca option for a child under 16 yrs.
  • Note if you book just 1 adult 1 alpaca option we assume you will be attending alone. If it is only you who wants to do the walk and your partner isn't interested then you book the shared option and you do all the walking with our alpaca
  • If you come with someone who has not booked, they should either drop you off and return later or wait in the car. There is no waiting area on site for those who have not booked.
  • This year's walks involve a short trip mini bus trip to and from the walk location.  The arrival and post walk part of the event are at Yew Tree Alpacas base in Anstey. It is not possible to travel direct to the walk location or go in your car behind the minibus.
  • There is no discount on the two person price if the child is one of the pair
  • All stated prices include both the alpaca part of the event and either lunch or cream tea. There is no extra to pay for the food and refreshment part. 
  •  You will receive confirmation by email at the time of booking. Approx 5 days before the event you will receive the detailed programme and pre walk information.  
  • Changes cost £10 per booking up to 14 days before the date of your walk (payable on the day of your walk). It is not feasible to change to another date within 14 days of your walk.
  • Cancellation 14 or more days prior to the event 50% refund. Within 14 days no refund.
  • If some or all of your group do not attend on the day there are no refunds.
  • Please note the duration of the two alpaca walks  published. If you are a slow walker, unsteady on your feet or have an injury which impacts on your walking ability, then neither of our walks are suitable and you book the alpaca adventure.  You must be able to use both hands to hold the lead rope when walking your alpaca, if you cannot do this then the alpaca walks are not suitable for you.
  • Alpacas can be scared or surprised by sudden sounds/movement this means that it is possible your alpaca may suddenly pull or shy during the walk. This is not common/usual but it is possible. You must be confident that you have the strength to hold the alpaca if he suddenly pulls forward during the walk.
  • It is very important you consider carefully which walk is most appropriate for you/your group. If you are not sure and you have not walked with Yew Tree alpacas before then book the walk experience, you can always book the Countryside walk at another time if you enjoy your visit.
