Just as our Christmas shop week started we had one of our most testing times ever at Yew Tree Alpacas. Our dear little Yogi (reared via hand as mum Jessica died when he was born) was diagnosed with Meningitis.
He was rushed (with two friends) to the Royal Vet College at Brookmans park on Dec 6th – the first day of our Christmas shop. He then spent 3 days at the RVC and after numerous tests, scans and a blood transfusion he was diagnosed with Meningitis and the blood sucking Barbers Pole worm.
Returning home very weak, unable to stand or walk his prognosis was very poor. The RVC antibiotics treatment was administered to the letter and miraculously 2 weeks later he managed to stand unaided. Not only the Christmas shop but also the Frosty walks continued during this period so a very tough time requiring 24/7 care for Yogi.
Since his first day standing on 22nd Dec he has become stronger each day and we are delighted with his progress. He’s still on four feeds a day but gaining weight and strength daily. Its such great news as we go into the new year, things looked very gloomy when he arrived home from the RVC in early December extremely weak and unable to stand.
